Advertising Standards Authority ruling raps Dell over online incentives

Dell Computer has been rapped by the Advertising Standards Authority when the ASA found that an `online-only` special deal could also be had over the telephone. The Dixons Group had complained that despite national press adverts saying that customers could get a ?50 reduction on a Dimension 2400 Home System or a 'Free Hard Drive Upgrade` if they ordered online, they could in fact also get the special deal over the telephone. Dell said that while its staff didn't actively promote online promotions through telephone sales, often people who contacted Dell to order a machine over the phone expected the same deal as they saw in the advertisements. ...more
