Donk-D network worm begins its rounds

The network worm and backdoor Trojan, Donk-D, has been reported in the wild, warns anti-virus company Sophos. Copying itself to network shares with weak passwords, it also attempts to spread by exploiting the now-familiar vulnerabilities in Windows RPCSS service - see also today's story New RPC flaw in Windows. Preliminary doubts over BT's link patent

BT about as likely to win hyperlink case as a mammoth getting a US pilot's licence. Judge Colleen McMahon, presiding over a preliminary hearing in New York yesterday warned BT that its 1976 hyperlink patent may be difficult to prove, likening the differences between a computer in 1976 and today to those between a mastodon and a jet. The FT reports the Judge's awkward analogy as BT goes to court to prove that its hyperlink patent means it has a case to demand royalties from US ISPs. ...more

iPod shop opens in London

popXpress, the UK's first dedicated iPod and iPod accessory shop, opens on Monday at Liverpool Street, London. popXpress' CEO Jonathan Cole describes the three-storey emporium as a 'geek boutique' that will stock Apple's full iPod range, accessories and a 'vast array' of third party products.
