In the light of Microsoft's appeal to stay an injunction forcing it to include Sun's version of the Java runtime environment in copies of XP and Internet Explorer, it now falls to Sun to persuade the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals not to intervene. In a 25-page filing submitted to the court yesterday, Sun claims that in allowing the injunction, Microsoft would still have plenty of time to incorporate Sun's technology, as the next shipping date for Windows falls within the 120-day period allowed - meaning Microsoft wouldn't have to worry about it until the next shipping date. ...more AMD aims for a quiet revolution AMD has set out a new range of its desktop processors with the emphasis on low power consumption. The company has announced new energy efficient AMD Athlon 64 X2 dual-core, AMD Athlon 64 and AMD Sempron processors, based on the new socket AM2 design. Two new types of lower power design are being introduced - a standard 'energy efficient' range and an 'energy efficient small form factor' series. ...more Mixed results for Blackberry court battle Research In Motion (RIM), the manufacturer of the popular Blackberry mobile, has been left with a curate's egg to mull over for Christmas. A US appeal court has found that the company has infringed the patent of NTP but has lifted the injunction which would have prevented RIM from selling Blackberrys in the US. NTP Inc had claimed that it holds a patent for wireless email going back to 1993 - a claim disputed by RIM. ...more |
