IBM improves chip cooling technology

IBM has been detailing a new chip cooling technique that could massively increase the effectiveness of future heat sinks. The invention is a bio-engineered gel that sits between the chip and heat sink and transfers heat. Sun silent on staff lay-offs

Sun Microsystems has offered no official comment on rumours that it has executed the next phase of its plan to shed up to 5,000 staff. New chief executive Jonathan Schwartz is charged with reducing operational costs by between $480 million and $590 million by the end of the company's 2007 financial year. Revenues from paid-for Web content to rise 25 per cent in 2003

Paid-for Internet content is expected to generate more than $2bn in 2003, a rise of 25 per cent on the $1.6bn spent in 2002 according to the latest report from Jupiter Research. The report also predicts that revenues will grow by more than 20 per cent every year at least until 2007. ...more

Investigation of Apple Samsung Flash deal confirmed

South Korea has confirmed that it has begun an investigation into accusations that Samsung has charged Apple unfairly low prices for Flash memory chips. 'We are investigating whether Samsung has been unfairly supplying Flash memory chips to Apple at cheaper prices than applied to domestic music player makers,' a spokesman for the country's Fair Trade Commission explained. Dell sells to retailers in the US - Europe has to wait
