Google Book Search reaches out to the classics

Searchers can now read full copies of free, downloadable (PDF) versions of some of the world's greatest books on Google Book Search. Google has found that one of the advantages of having many of the world's greatest writers on the service is that they are less likely to sue. These include Newton's Principia, thankfully not in the original Latin, that laid the foundations of modern physics, Dante's Inferno (in the original Renaissance Italian) and the works of Shakespeare. ...more

Apple scoops half-a-billion dollar profit

Apple narrowly failed to hit the one million mark for laptop sales, despite shifting a record number of Macs in the last financial quarter. Sales of 986,000 MacBooks plus 624,000 desktop Macs underpinned revenues of $4.8 billion and a $546 million profit, increases of 31 per cent and 27 per cent respectively on the same quarter last year. ...more
