Yahoo! IM worm attacks Internet Explorer

A new worm has been discovered that installs its own browser on to the victim's PC and redirects the homepage of Internet Explorer to a page which automatically downloads spyware. FaceTime Security Labs, which discovered the threat, called yhoo32.explr, says the worm spreads through Yahoo!'s instant messaging application, which sends a message containing a link to a website, where the malicious code is downloaded from, to contacts during chat sessions. ...more

Court injunction threat to release of Windows XP

Microsoft is facing the threat of a court order - brought by one of the states involved in the anti-trust case - to prevent the release of Windows XP until the outstanding trial issues have been addressed. However unlikely it may be that XP will in fact be delayed, the anti-Microsoft faction is upping the ante in the long-running case. Reuters reports that one of the state prosecutors involved in the case - as yet unspecified - is considering bringing a court injunction to prevent the release of XP. ...more
