New video converter announced

A new analogue to digital video converter has been introduced in the UK, capable of inputting video from tape to a computer for digital editing and then outputting it back to tape. NV35 likely to be Nvidia's first orders at IBM

The orders Nvidia may start placing at IBM are said to be the company's new NV35 chip, an updated version of Nvidia's current top-end GeForce FX 5800 series (NV30) chip, sources said, as Nvidia's cooperation with IBM is aimed at the latter's high-end process technology. Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), Nvidia's long-time foundry partner, will continue manufacturing the larger-amount, lower-end GeForce FX 5600 (NV31) and GeForce FX 5200 (NV34) chips. Chemist takes Amazon route to research

A UK scientist has applied technology developed by the likes of Amazon to the analysis of chemistry research papers. Henry Rzepa, a reader in organic chemistry at London's Imperial College, has developed the SemanticEye application that searches papers's content to create links between common topics. The software works in a similar way to the tools that Amazon and Apple's iTunes use to generate purchase recommendations based on what you have previously bought. ...more
