Sasser and Phatbot worm writers arrested in Germany

German police have confirmed that on Friday they arrested a teenager in connection with the outbreak of the `Sasser` worm. Sven Jaschen, 18, from Lower Saxony is also reported to have been responsible for all 28 versions of the 'Netsky' worm which has been causing havoc in the world's PCs since February. In a seemingly related move, the police in the German state of Baden-Wuerttemberg have arrested a 21-year-old man who is said to be behind `Agobot` and later as `Phatbot` worms. ...more

Sony PlayStation news round up

In one big dollop of news, we cover Sony's new PlayStation portal, the launch of the PS One and which games will be released with the PlayStation 2 on 24 November. Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has launched a new web portal for its PlayStation range which links onto 14 adapted European sub-sites, covering five languages and creating 21 different versions of the initial site. Macromedia completes MX product family with Dreamweaver and Fireworks

Macromedia has completed its MX product family with the launch of new versions of Dreamweaver and Fireworks. The company also announced ColdFusion MX, a new version of the server scripting technology it acquired when it merged with Allaire last year. The MX brand was launched with the release of Flash MX earlier this year, and is designed to integrate Macromedia's entire product family to enable the building of what the company calls 'Rich Internet Applications' ? that is Internet services with more complex user interfaces, two-way communication, and Web-based business applications. ...more

IDF, Fall 2005: Intel confirms port of developer tools to Mac OS X

Intel has confirmed that it will port its developer tools to Mac OS X in advance of Apple's adoption of its hardware next year. The tools will be the same as offered for Windows and Linux developers and a beta version will be released later this year. Speaking at the first ever OS X session to be held at the Intel Developer Forum, Kevin Smith, director of Intel Compiler Labs, said that Intel will provide tools for both single- and multi-core processors as plug-ins for Apple's Xcode development platform. ...more
