Microsoft settlement to fund Real acquisition spree

Real Networks is looking to spend the $760mn it will get from Microsoft by acquiring some other companies, its founder and CEO said yesterday. 'Our two growth businesses have been music and games so if you could do acquisitions that accelerate that I wouldn't rule it out,' Rob Glaser said at a tech conference in Athens. Glaser said that the payment would raise Real's cash reserves to more than two times its annual sales but he was not planning to splash the cash immediately. ...more

Google apologises for Blogger outages

Google has apologised for last week's Blogger outages, describing them as a 'nuisance' and not representative of the kind of service it wants to provide. In its Blogger Buzz blog it explains that a number of unplanned outages were followed by deliberate ones as the causes were tackled. Corel bought Bryce from Metacreations last year and has added several new features to the software in addition to carbonising it for OS X. Graphics battle: Nvidia GeForce FX vs. ATI R350 in the next few weeks

Despite various market rumors, Nvidia said it has not changed its plans to ship its GeForce FX products in early February. Faced with this upcoming competition, ATI Technologies recently revealed that it would release its long-planned R350 chips in the next few weeks to keep its leading position in product specifications.
