A second Excel flaw emerges

Another 'zero day' security flaw has emerged with Excel just as Microsoft is scrambling to fix the vulnerability that appeared last week. The new vulnerability could be exploited by convincing a user to click on a link on a specially crafted Excel spreadsheet, meaning a criminal hacker could gain control of the computer. According to an alert sent to customers by security firm Symantec, the security breach occurs when Excel fails to check user-supplied input properly before copying it to an insufficiently sized memory buffer. ...more

OS X attracting hacker attention

Apple may become the victim of its success as increased sales, high profile, and its move to the Intel architecture so familiar to Windows hackers put the spotlight on OS X as this year's hacker target. SecurityFocus reports that a recent SchmooCon hacking conference resulted in a security researcher having his own Apple laptop hacked, despite having all reasonable security precautions in place. Motorola buys push email specialist Good Technology

Motorola has bought push email specialist Good Technology in a cash deal that has been broadly welcomed by the industry. Analysts at Ovum said: 'This acquisition makes sense because the development route [for wireless email] is so fraught with dangers and because Motorola seems finally determined to crack the enterprise market'. Financial terms have not been disclosed, but Motorola has been cash-rich and in need of fast-tracking its enterprise messaging strategy for some time. ...more

The Disney PIXAR movie spin-off, Cars, has finally been shunted from pole position by Saints Row. THQ's third-person gang warfare game for the Xbox 360 shoots straight in at number one.
